Malayalam super star Mammootty starrer Yatra is based on late political leader Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's walkathon across undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2003. The film that also stars Jagapathi Babu, Suhasini Maniratnam, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Rao Ramesh will in key roles will hit the big screen on February 8th.
YSR is a mass leader who has millions of admirers in Telugu states and other places. However, makers made the movie consciously on decent budget, though there is good buzz surrounding it and YSRCP supporters are keen to watch it.
Exhibiting his admiration, recently a YSR fan named Munishwar Reddy in an auction bought first overseas ticket of Yatra spending whopping Rs 4.37 lakh (USD 6,116) in Seattle, US. The film will have premiere in USA on 7th.
Coming to pre-release business, Yatra theatrical rights for Nizam area were sold to Dil Raju for Rs 3.3 Cr. Ceded and Andhra rights were sold for 2.2 Cr and 5.5 Cr respectively. Rest of India theatrical and overseas rights valued 50 lakhs and 2 Cr respectively. Yatra has done worldwide pre-release business of Rs 13.50 Cr. The film needs to recover 14 Cr share for its lifetime run, which is not a big task.
