Toughest Censor Officer

GT Shastri used to be censor officer in 1956 for few years in Chennai. During those days all the South Indian films used to get censored in Chennai. Before taking over the responsibilities Shastri researched over films, techniques and many other things. Back then, many films used to get lot of censor cuts.

\r\n

He used to cut scenes with kisses, hugs and violence. So, producers used to appeal once again for review. Shastri then used to remark seriously, “Objection means objection and one should adhere to the rules.”

\r\n

Whenever Censor Board used to revise the rules, he used to call for meeting of all South Indian producers and inform them about the roles and told them not to shoot unnecessarily as it would increase the cuts and thus the budget.

\r\n

He used to question why one shoots bold scenes knowingly that the censor board object to it and requested them to take the censor rules and complete the film accordingly concentrating on good story and screenplay.
