Vijay Deverakonda starrer Arjun Reddy and Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh, both the movies, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, created a lot of buzz in the film industry because of its controversial content. Kabir Singh is remake of  Telugu film Arjun Reddy.  In both movies, the character of the male lead is portrayed as a misogynist and dominant lover to a frail and feeble woman. Film critic Anupama Chopra recently conducted a panel discussion and interviewed a bunch of actors together who have made their mark in Indian cinema in recent times. Parvathy Thiruvothu, Ranveer Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Deepika Padukone, Manoj Bajpayee, Alia Bhatt, Vijay Sethupathi and Vijay Deverakonda were a part of the discussion. Parvathy Thiruvothu talked about Vijay Deverakonda starrer Arjun Reddy in front of Vijay Deverakonda.

Parvathy Thiruvothu said, “When a man is being misogynistic and abusive, and you show that in a way that incites applause in the audience, then that’s glorification. There has to be commercial, there has to be fun. But without demeaning gender.”  Parvathy Thiruvothu spoke about how these films and characters can impact viewers, drawing from her own experience of feeling for years that such passive-aggressive and abusive behavior was acceptable in her own personal life.

Parvathy Thiruvothu compared Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh to Hollywood movie Joker and explained why she thought they were different.

Parvathy said in front of Vijay Deverakonda, “Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh had the visual grammar of glorification, whereas Joker did not.”

Though Joker too has faced criticism for attempting to glorify the protagonist’s violence, Parvathy Thiruvothu’ view was that while Joker made her get the character, it wasn’t structured to make the audience feel inspired to follow it.

Parvathy Thiruvothu added that while she may not be able to stop a director from making such type of  movie, she had the choice not to be part of it.

This is not the first time that Parvathy Thiruvothu has been vocal about her views. She was previously in the news headline  for speaking up against the misogyny in the Mammootty starrer Kasaba.
