Things have definitely changed. For the past three months there has been no movie releases and this situation is going to continue for the next 2-3 months as well. With no theaters, film makers are now opting for digital releases due to financial crunch. Small film makers are now in talks with OTT platforms to release their movies at a decent price which is viable to both parties.
However distributors, exhibitors and other theatrical parties are quite against this system and are saying that it will totally destroy the current theatrical model. Usually, movies are used to release first in theaters, which is primary source of income for all. Then OTT release came as additional income for the producers which reduced the burden a little bit for the producers.
Now with exhibitors and distributors opposite to releasing movies directly through OTT platforms, new discussion came into light. Films will release in OTT platforms now and later when theaters are opened, they will have theatrical release as many audience are not still accustomed to OTT platforms like Netflix, Prime etc.,
So audience will show interest in watching movies in theaters if the content is good. We have to see how this option is viable to all parties.
